Macdonald backs calls for investigation into AWPR funding
Lewis said :
“The AWPR was supposed to be the flagship of the SNP’s capital project funding model.
“Instead, the figures from the Scottish Futures Trust proposals show that the cost of the AWPR is likely to escalate to over £1.5bn by the time the debt to the private sector is paid off in 2048, nearly double the cost announced by transport Secretary Keith Brown in December 2014.
“This is a worrying development for the North East, and for any area where so-called public sector projects will now find themselves at the beck and call of private investors.
“It is vital that Audit Scotland launches an investigation into the Scottish Futures Trust and the SNP Ministers who hold the purse strings.
“Construction of the AWPR must not be affected by this latest development, but neither should North East taxpayers end up paying for SNP mistakes.”
