Macdonald - Time for SPA to step in over control rooms
North East Labour Lewis Macdonald MSP has called on the Scottish Police Authority to step into the row over the future of Aberdeen and Inverness police control rooms and call centres, following comments from Assistant Chief Constable Val Thomson that Police Scotland intends to go ahead with the planned closures.
“It is time that they now stepped in and required Police Scotland not to take any further action towards closures at Aberdeen and elsewhere until the HMICS report has been published and considered.
“The SPA is responsible for the oversight of Police Scotland decisions, and it is vital that they are not posted missing when action needs to be taken.
“It is inconceivable that the police service should continue to plan and prepare for control room closures which are themselves under scrutiny as part of an ongoing inquiry by HM Inspector of Constabulary.”
