North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald today welcomed the ultimatum from a parliamentary committee at Holyrood, demanding that the Transport Minister and the AWPR contractors get the road open – or face being called back to the Scottish Parliament to explain why they’ve failed to do so.
Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee Convener Edward Mountain MSP has demanded a “full and urgent update” from Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson before next week’s committee meeting.
His ultimatum follows a letter to Mr Mountain from Lewis Macdonald on Monday, asking for the contractors to be held to account.
“I welcome the committee’s call for a full and urgent explanation of the failure to get the last remaining stretch of the AWPR open.
“If that is not forthcoming, I hope they will call the Minister and the contractors to explain themselves in person as a matter of urgency.”
