Macdonald calls for publication of Disclosure Scotland figures
North East Labour MSP has called on the Scottish Government to come clean about cuts in the numbers of police officers and staff working on Disclosure Scotland applications.
Lewis Macdonald said :
“Justice Secretary Michael Matheson claimed in answers to recent parliamentary questions that “this information is not held centrally”. This would suggest that SNP Ministers are not willing to admit how many police officers and staff are working on clearing applications for Disclosure Scotland, a Scottish Government agency.
“In 2012 the Scottish Government published the number of officers and staff who were working on Disclosure Scotland checks for each of the eight police forces existing at that time. Now that they have centralised the police service they have all the information in one place, but refuse to disclose the figures to Parliament.
“People are bound to ask how bad the situation has become when Michael Matheson won’t even admit he knows the answer himself. .
“Delays in Disclosure Scotland checks can have serious implications for NHS and other public sector employees, as staff are often unable to take on a new job until disclosure checks have been carried out.
“Ministers must now come clean, and publish this information without delay.”
