Lewis Macdonald asks Transport Secretary to think again on A96

5 April 2019

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has today written to the Transport Secretary Michael Matheson calling for him to put the Online Inverurie option for dualling the existing A96 back on the table.

The Online Inverurie or OLI option for dualling the existing A96 on the edge of the town was ruled out by Transport Scotland last year.

Their decision was based on traffic flows on the A96 in 2017, when traffic was being diverted because of the construction works on the AWPR, and before the impact of the new road on other roads could be measured.

Michael Matheson had promised in Parliament on the 13th March that “decisions on any other major trunk road investments in the area will be informed by up-to-date data”.

Lewis Macdonald is calling on him to apply that principle to the A96.

In his letter, he says: “I hope you will now reconsider, and instruct Transport Scotland to put the Online Inverurie option back on the table”.
